DIRECTIONS TO THE FAIR GROUNDS
Take I-44 to Spur drive (aka Hwy 38 or Marshfield exit). Driving southeast take the first left (just before you get to Wal-Mart) onto Banning Street and follow it to the Fairgrounds (aka Ellis O. Jackson Marshfield City Park) on North Marshfield Street.
Exhibitors enter the south gate and register at the registration table in the Highland Fiber Artist Booth (#1 in the first pavillion). Early arrivals can check the list of booth assignments posted at the door on the front porch of the adjacent building. Set up is to be completed and vehicles out of the exhibit area by 9:30 a.m. You will find free parking across the street to the right as you exit through theNorthgate. For safety, vehicles will not be permitted to reenter area until fairgroers have time to clear the area(after 4:15 p.m.)
Visitors: There will be no parking in the exhibit area except for assigned spaces for the handicapped. Regular free parking will be found across the street from (and just past) the north gate. Please be sure to register -exhibitors are offering some very nice door prizes-and you will recieve a booklet containing a directory of the booths, exhibits and demonstration areas. Competitions with less then 3 entries will be cancelled.

BOOTH SPACE
Reservations for booth space are to be made in advance. The cost for a single space is $10; a double is $15. There is no cost to those who present exhibits (including animals and/or demonstrations but don't sell.) Two vendors may share a single space but not a double one.

Bring table, chairs and any props needed in your booth. It is suggested you also furnish several chairs for visitors to your booth. Prizes will be presented for the most educational and the most attractive booths.

Each booth exhibitor is asked to donate a door prize of at least $5 in value, kept at your booth to be picked up by the winner. Include your business card or facsimile, with the door prize listed on the back when you return your reservation application.

To help visitors remember you and your products for possible future sales-advertize!
Each visitor to the fair recieves a free directory which displays the ads and Fair information.

COMPETITIONS

Crochet & Knit Speed Contest
These contest are open to all ages. Each will last 15 minutes, run at seperate times. Ribbons will be presented for work judged on the most repititions and best workmanship.

Abbreviations
Crochet: Ch=chain, St=stitch, Slst=slip stitch, Dc=double crochet, Sp=space
Knit: K=knit, P=purl, St=stitch

The following patterns must be used.
Crochet pattern
Ch 6. Slst in 1st ch to join ring
Row 1: Ch 3. Turn. 3 Dc.Ch 2, 4 Dc in ring. Turn
Row 2: Ch 3. 4 Dc. Ch 2. 4 Dc in Ch2 Sp. Turn
Continue, repeating row 2 for duration of contest.

Knit Pattern
Cast on 21
Rows 1-4: K
Rows 5 & 7: K3, P3 across
Rows 6 & 8: P3, K3 across
Repeat rows 1-8 for duration of contest. Contestants will be asked to bind off after the time is up.

FLEECE COMPETITION
Breeders who wish to compete must own the animal from which the shorn fleece comes. Fleeces should be clean, skirted, and displayed in a clear plastic bag for the competition. Entry registration tags will be stapled to each bag and will be assigned an entry number rather then containing the exhibitors name.

Fleece Judging Score Card Sample

Presentation 15 points possible rolled with cut side out, contained in some manner
Character 25 points possible Handle, color, brightness, luster, breech fiber, length suitable to grade of fleece, uniformity of crimp
Soundness 20 points possible Tenderness, breaks, weak tips
Contamination 35 points possible Vegetation, stained fiber, grease tags, dirt, second cuts, off colors for fleece, stains, belly wool & facewool removed
Weight 5 points possible Suitable to grade of fleece
Total score 100 points possible

HAND-SPUN SKEIN COMPETITION
Yarns will be ten yards of two ply yarn in a skein, either natural or dyed.
CATEGORIES
Alpaca, Angora, Llama, Mohair, Silk, Wool, Cotton, Flax, Hemp, Ramie, and Designer. Designer yarns include blends: textured: structured, unique and interesting yarns created for effect; and unlisted categories.

Skien Judging Score Card Sample

General overall appearance & preparation of exhibit; clean, properly skiened & tied; correct yardage. 30 points possible
of fiber to yarn; amount of twist; diameter of yarn. 10 points possible
Technique Evenly executed twist in spin;evenly executed twist in ply; diameter consistency; structural integrity; consistency of dye. 50 points possible
Suitability of yarn to use; direction 7 amount of twist; diameter of yarn; handle of yarn to specified use. 10 points possible
Total score 100 points possible.

Fashion Show

What do you do? Knit? Crochet? Quilt? Weave? Sew?
Show off your talent at our second annual Fashion show

Articles must be fiber related and made by you personally within the last year. You may model your items yourself or we will provide models. Apparel must bew modest. A 30-40 minute show is planned, complete wiht a narration of each item being modeled.
Sign up now! Provide a typed paragraph about your item on a 3 by 5 card. Bring the card and article by 10 a.m. to the Millers booth at the Fiber Fair. (locate by inquiring at the registration booth)
