FIBER FAIR 2008

Fiber Fair 2008 will be held Saturday, May 17, 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. , rain
or
shine, at the Webster County Fairgrounds in Marshfield, Missouri . Booths are
in
pavil ions under roofs. Admission and parking are free.
Fiber Fair is a family friendly event , designed to bring those who produce
fiber
together with those artisans who use natural fibers, such as wool , l lama,
mohair ,
alpaca, silk, leather , and wood. There will be demonstrations of weaving,
dyeing,
spinning, felting, quilting; hands-on mini workshops; a hands-on children’s booth;
and much more to educate and entertain the public.
You are invited to participate by at tending the event , having an exhibit ,
a
demonstration, and/or sales booth. Dress in 1800’s costumes is encouraged but
opt ional . The location of exhibits and demonstration areas will be
posted at the
registration table.
To emphasize the educational aspect of the Fiber Fair , you are encouraged to
set
up displays and demonstrate techniques of your particular craft . We also
encourage participation in the fashion show, fleece competition, skein competit ion,
qui l t block contest , and/or the knitting and crocheting speed contests.
Should you require confirmation after submitting your Application,
include a
stamped, self -addressed envelope or e-mail address (specify confirmation)

The gate will open at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 17. You must register before
setting up your booth. Please check in by 8:30 at the registration table
located
in the Highland Fiber Artists booth (#1 in the first pavilion) . Late registration may
result in your reservation being forfeited. Set-up is to be completed and
vehicles out of the exhibit area by 9:30 a.m. Booths are not to be taken down
before 4 p.m. For safety, vehicles will not be permitted back into the
exhibit area
until fair -goers have time to clear the area (after 4:15 p.m. ). Al l participants are
responsible for cleaning their area. Please take trash to proper containers.
For children’s safety while at tending Fiber Fair an adult should accompany
them.
For the safety of al l , no pets are permitted; assistance animals are the
except ion.
Food will be available for purchase. Exhibitors in booths may not sell food
or
drink. Please do not smoke in or around the booths.
Veterinary Health Certificates are required by the State of Missouri for al l
animals exhibited. Please bring original certificates with you, and a
copy of each
for our records.
Note: Highland Fiber Artists is not responsible for theft or accidents at the
fairgrounds during the Fiber Fair .

Take I 44 to Spur Drive. Driving southeast, take the first left onto Banning
Street and follow it to
the fairgrounds (aka Ellis O. Jackson Marshfield City Park) on North Marshall
Street.
EXHIBITORS: Please register at the registration table in the Highland Fiber
Artists booth
(#1 in the first pavilion). Early arrivals can check the list of booth
assignments posted at the
registration booth. Set up is to be completed and vehicles out of the exhibit
area by 9:30 a.m.
For safety, vehicles will not be permitted to reenter the exhibit area until
fairgoers have time to
clear the area (after 4:15 p.m.).
VISITORS: There will be no parking in the exhibit area except for assigned
spaces for the
handicapped. Please be sure to register - exhibitors are offering some very nice
door prizes -
and you will receive a booklet containing a directory of the booths, exhibits
and demonstration

Quilt Block Contest
Presented by Candlelight Quilter s
Contestants will design a block using fabric
provided. Blocks will be displayed at Fiber
Fair and first place viewers’ choice will be
awarded a $25 gift certificate from Qui l t in’
Time in Rogersville.
For information and fabric kit , send $5 to
Missy West , 4549 State Hwy C, Seymour ,
MO 65746. Deadline for submission of
finished block is May 1s t . You may enter
more than once.
Quilts made from these blocks will be
donated to Pancreatic Cancer Awareness
for use in their fund raising.
Fiber Fair Competition Rules & Entry Information
The following will provide the needed information if you are interested in
participating in any
of our several Fiber Fair events. We hope you will want to join in the fun. I
f you have any

Three entries are required to hold a competition.
BOOTH SPACE is available in open air pavilions under roofs.
Applications for space are to be made in advance; space isn’t reserved until an application and
payment are received. The cost for a single space is $12; a double is $20. There
is no cost to
those who present exhibits, including animals, and/or demonstrations but don’
t sell , however
an application is still required. Raffles are classified as selling.
Bring table, chairs, and any props needed for displaying and demonstrating
your craft .
Each booth exhibitor is asked to donate a door prize of at least $5 in value,
kept at your
booth to be picked up by the winner . Include your business card or facsimile,
with the
door prize written on the back, when you return your reservation application.
Fashion Show! What can YOU do?
Knit? Crochet? Quilt? Weave? Sew?
Articles must be fiber related and made by you personally within the last
year . You may
model the items yourself or we will provide models. Apparel must be modest .
A 30-40
minute show is planned, complete with a narration of each item being
modeled.
Sign up now! Type or print a paragraph about your item on a 3 x 5 card and mail to the
address below before May 1s t . Bring the article by 10:00 a.m. to the HFA
registration
booth at the fair . No fee is required.

Crochet & Knit Speed Contests
Presented by Ozark Mountain Knitting Guild
Pay $1 at check in for each contest .
These contests are open to al l ages. Each
will last 15 minutes, run at separate times.
Contestants provide their own size 11
crochet hooks and/or size 8 straight
knitting needles. Yarn and thread will be
provided.
The pat tern will be given to contestants at
the start of the contest with 3 minutes to
review.
Ribbons will be presented for work, judged
on the most repetitions and best
workmanship.
Hand-Spun Skein Competition
Presented by Country Heritage Guild
Bring your fleece entries to the registration
table by 10:30 a.m. Pay the $1 per skein
there. They will be released at 4:00 p.m.
Categories:
Alpaca, Angora, Llama, Mohair , Silk, Wool ,
Cot ton, Flax, Hemp, Ramie, and Designer .
(Designer yarns include blends; textured;
structured; unique and interesting yarns
created for effect ; and unlisted categories. )
A skein should be submitted for competition
by the person who hand-spun the yarn
within the last year . Yarns must be at least
ten yards of either natural or dyed two-ply
yarn in a skein. The yarn must be neatly
wound into a skein that is tied in at least
three places.
The entries will be judged on general
overall appearance, suitability of fiber to
yarn, technique, and suitability of yarn to
use.
Fleece Competition
Presented by Country Heritage Guild
Bring your fleece entries to the registration
table by 10:30 a.m. Pay $3 per fleece
there. They will be released at 4:00 p.m.
Categories:
Alpaca – adult and under 16 months;
Mohair – adult and kid under 1 year ;
Wool – white and colored; and Angora.
Breeders who wish to compete must own
the animal from which the shorn fleece
comes. Fleeces should be clean, skirted,
and in a clear plastic bag for the
competition.
Entry registration tags will be stapled to
each bag and will be assigned an entry
number rather than containing the
exhibitor ’s name.
The entries will be judged from a spinner ’s
point of view, on presentation, character ,
soundness, contamination, and weight .
Advertising Information
Support local fiber producers and craftspeople by purchasing an advertisement
for your business in our annual Fiber
Fair directory that is given to each vendor and visitor at the fair. The
directory will be printed in April and some will be
distributed to each advertiser. We would appreciate these being displayed
prominently in your place of business.

cards will be accepted but keep in
mind that the quality you provide will determine the outcome of the ad. Please
do not write on the card. If no
advertising copy is provided, supply information and an ad will be designed for
you. The deadline for advertisements is
April 1st.
